Addis Ababa , March . 25 (BNA) A four metre tall wall collapsed during heavy rains, claiming eight lives, five of them children in crowding housing in the impoverished district of Kolfe Keranyo in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, local press reported today.
About a dozen people injured when the wall collapsed Friday were rescued by the City Fire Department and Emergency Service, according to the report.
Among the dead were a couple and their three children - a seven- year-old girl and two five-year old boys, as well as an elderly woman with her two grandchildren, a five-year- old girl and a seven-year-old boy.
A fire that erupted when the wall collapsed was extinguished by the fire fighters, but caused damage to property estimated at 23,100 dollars.
