Ihsanoglu Condemns Suicide Attack On Al Arabiya Television

The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, expressed strong condemnation for the suicide attack on the office building of Al Arabiya Television in Baghdad, yesterday 26/07/2010, in which many people were dead and injured.
Ihsanoglu described the attack as a brutal and shameful action and double terrorism aimed at undermining the democratic process in Iraq, on one hand, and at undercutting freedom of speech on the other. Jeddah, July 27 (BNA) -- OIC Secretary General urged the Iraqi people to shun violence, preserve their country’s unity and rise up against these kinds of barbaric acts. He also called on Iraqi parties concerned to quickly form an elected government in order to consolidate peace and security in the country. On another hand, the Secretary General expressed his sincere condolences to the Government and people of Iraq, especially the families of the victims who died in this pointless attack. He also expressed his sympathy with the in jured and wished them speedy recovery. The Secretary General also expressed his sincere condolences to Al Arabiya Television over its painful loss. While affirming his support for media freedom, the Secretary General urged the Television to continue to assume its noble mission and never to cave in to threats and terrorism E M.
